Our Story
A Chronicle of Ballet, Legend, and Craft
Nutcracker Castle was born from a simple truth: The Nutcracker is more than a ballet. It is a shared memory, a family tradition, a piece of music that can make a grown adult feel seven years old again. It is the smell of pine, the shimmer of stage lights, the moment the curtain rises and the world outside disappears.
We are a group of Nutcracker lovers — writers, dancers, historians, collectors, and dreamers — who believe this story deserves a home as rich and layered as the performance itself. Nutcracker Castle is that home.
Our editorial board is unlike any other. Each member of our Castle Council brings a unique perspective shaped by their relationship to The Nutcracker. Clara writes from the heart. Drosselmeyer uncovers the hidden histories. The Sugar Plum Fairy brings her refined expertise in performance and music. Even the Mouse King has a seat at the table — because every great story needs someone willing to challenge the consensus.
Here you will find articles that span centuries — from E.T.A. Hoffmann's dark original tale to last night's opening at the Bolshoi. You will find the craft behind the wooden soldiers carved in the Erzgebirge mountains and the stories of families who make The Nutcracker part of their Christmas every year.
We also sell nutcrackers — handcrafted, German-made, beautiful things that carry the same spirit this site celebrates. Because sometimes the best way to keep a tradition alive is to hold it in your hands.
Welcome to the Castle. Pick a character. Stay a while.
